We have an ongoing fundraiser this year called “Pennies for the Marquee”. The children are asked to bring in their spare change from home and deposit it in the collection jar in their classroom. Each Spirit Day the classes carry their jars to the gym and are asked to dump their change into a large container near the stage. The money is counted and tallied. If the children raise 1,000,000 pennies ($10,000), we usually have a special Spirit Day for them at the end of the school year. We have been doing this for the past several years to raise money for the playground and each year Dr. Marquez has dressed up in a costume that the children vote on. He has been a ballerina, Hannah Montana and Nacho Libre so far. The kids really enjoy it!
Now that our playground is going to be built, we are focusing on a marquee for the front of the school!
